Obituary of Joe Earl Shoals

Joe Earl Shoals Sr. was born February 6, 1943, in Idabel, Oklahoma to the proud parents of a sharecropper, Earnest and Corine Shoals. Joe was the fifth oldest of ten kids, (Charles, Earnestine, Jean Faye, Frank, Joe, Sammie, Roy, Willie, Claude, and Larry). Joe attended school in Idabel, and in 1962 moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he met and married Karla Jo Zemke, and through this union they had a beautiful son, Joe (Joey) Shoals Jr. and was also father to stepsons Jamie, Tommy, and Wesley. Joe also has four grandchildren, Angela, Jorrell, Destiny, and Adam, whom also lives in St. Paul, Minnesota. Joe worked and retired from Region Hospital where he met lots of friends. He often spoke of enjoying his job and the people he worked with. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, trips to Colorado, and drag racing parks with his brother Sammie and his nephew JC Jr. Joe was full of life and he enjoyed his life to its fullest. He enjoyed making people laugh and often made people feel wanted. He loved barbecuing and cooking. He was a joy to be around. And on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020 Joe succumbed to stage 4 lung cancer, and our Heavenly Father called Joe home to be with Him, for the Bible says, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Joe Sr, is preceded in death by his mother, (Corine); father, (Earnest); brothers, Charles, Frank, Sammie, Roy, and Larry. He leaves to cherish his life a loving son, Joe Jr.; grandchildren, Angela, Jorrell, Destiny, and Adam; sisters; Jean Faye Crocket (JC), and Earnestine Shoals; brothers, Willie Shoals, and Claude Shoals (Lisa); also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Service 12:00 pm (Noon) Thursday July 9th at the Spielman Mortuary Chapel, 34 W. University Ave, St. Paul. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service (11:00 am - !2:00 p.m.). In accordance with recently updated MN Health Department regulations, we can now accommodate up to a maximum of 45 people in the mortuary at any time. Please be respectful and limit your time in the mortuary if it appears to be getting crowded. If you have a face mask we ask that you wear it while inside.
