Obituary of James Gums

James Percy Gums Sr., born to James and Mary E. (Fulton) Gums.. February 17, 1936 in Duluth, Minnesota, transitioned from this life March 24th, at the age of 86 years old. Jim graduated from Denfield High School in Duluth, MN. Jim was Baptized in the Baptist faith. He became a member of the Seven-Day Adventist church until his illness. Jim was a Veteran of the Korean War from 1953 – 1957 with the United States Navy. Jim worked for Litton Industries for 15 years and retired as a supervisor from Thermo King in 2001. Jim’s favorite sports were: fishing, golfing, and hunting. He was very handy with his hands; he was considered a fix-it-man. Jim always gave his best, and did great work. Survived by: Wife: Sandra Gums of 40 years. Brothers: Frank- Dorothy, Ohio; and John Gums -Terry, Duluth. Sisters: Jennie Pickens - Randy, Duluth; Mary Lou Pride - Samuel, Ohio. Children: James P. Gums Jr. – Arizona; James R. Gums, Mark A. Gums, Michael Gums, Rebekah Diez- Mn; La Mont E. Chaney Sr. - Angela, Texas; and Jayson Chaney, Mn. 23 Grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Proceeded in death by Father, Mother, and Brother Robert Gums.. Jim was a beloved husband, father and friend. He will be missed. Just A Memory Away I’m no longer by your side, but there’s no need to weep; I’ve left sweet recollections I’m hoping you will keep. Eternal joy and memories Stay in our hearts forever, Strengthening our special bond that parting cannot sever. Now it’s time to journey on, so let your faith be strong, For I’m in a better place… I’m home where I belong.
